My neighbour grows these he got the seeds from India. I would like to know what it is called in english. He uses a lot of it and speaks highly of it, he uses it instead of spinach leaves in dishes.

Could that be Callaloo,- an amaranth? Leaves used like spinach. It will become more obvious later in the year when the flowers appear. The seeds are a little like a cereal but quite small.

No I don't think it's callaloo, amranth the seeds look more like spinach and grow between the leafs. I'll take a photo tomorrow to show.

Unfortunately my knowledge of amaranth itself is sketchy and I have only grown it once. And there are many types of greens out there I have never heard of either. Over to the experts for this one methinks .......... good luck finding answers.
