Under Gardens There are articles by Joseph Lofthouse on what he calls The Beautifully Promiscuous and Tasty Tomato Project in which he describes experiments in breeding outcrossing tomatoes by reintroducing the genetic diversity within several wild species.
In fact lots of very informative articles there.
